More and more the Republican party appears to move more and more to the extremes of the right. I consider myself a conservative with some variations. (example: I believe that women, in the early stages of pregnancy, have the right to abortion if they choose and in the later stages have the right to protect their own health as needed. Also, I firmly believe in the scientific method and am very open to understanding the nature of evolution.) In fiscal and most defense issues I am more in line with standard conservative thought.

Seems to me all human beings, given their variety, are actually like me. It also seems like a human trend to use systems, like religion, to modify behaviors that conflict with the way one senses right order. (example: Most folks would tend to be tribal in their associations, but much of Christian doctrine demands inclusion so they support it even if it feels wrong.)

Once there was a place for us in the Republican party, but now that seems closed. I had hoped, following the folly of McCain's choice of Gov. Palin, a more open feeling within the party would begin to arise. However, I no longer see that happening. This weekend's meeting, townhall style, with Mr. Romney, etc. at first felt like the intention was to form a "new Republican" style where more could be welcomed. Reflection on that since has convinced me it was just an effort to more clearly show those of us who dare to step over the line where the door is.

But where should we go? To the dems? (That seems counter productive although they have come to seem more open to differences, outside of their own extremes, than the current Republicans do. example: The Republican embrace of Rush over DP.) To the independents? (True, Senator Lieberman seems more like me than anyone and he hasn't moved into the party.) Or stay within the party and hope to open it up from within?

I feel lost in the litmus test anywhere I turn? I can't be the only one. I am hoping that those of you who choose DP over Rush may be feeling the same way or know those who do. What are your thoughts?

I know many Pragerites hate the NYT, which I adore and read daily no matter where I am in the world. You cannot beat it for information both left and right - you just need to be discerning as always. Yesterday's column by David Brooks really got me thinking that I should do something if only to pacify my own soul. (The column was on the current rejection of notions about community over individualism.)

What are some of you thinking? By the way, it does seem to me that there are fewer and fewer of you. I hope that does not reflect listener number for the show. I would hate to see DP end.

Bullmoose......you raise several good questions. IMO, the the light bulb will go on in the GOP at some point, probably sooner rather than later and some of the rigidity will go away. Probably the main thing the GOP needs is an Obama of their own...ie a charismatic, likable and articulate (spell?) person who will seperate himself (or herself) from the pack. Palin clearly isn't the answer. Jindal (spell?) seems to me to be the direct opposite of Palin....he absolutely BOMBED in his canned rebuttal to Obama's speech, but if you see him in a regular Q and A, he's really seems to be a bright guy. I don't think you can really make a person more intelligent, but you can certainly add polish to them and make them seem more at ease, which is what he seems to need. I also just read an nice article about Stafford, the Gov of South Carolina.
As for your comments re Prager, I have also wondered whether his ratings are sagging (dying?). I won't, for one second, deny that many of the listeners he still has are absolute die hards, but it would appear that his ratings HAVE to be off. In addition to there being no real interest in this website, if you go to his blog, most of the articles posted have 0 responses....if there are 3-5 responses that is a lot for him. Contrast that to Medved's blog, where each article seems garner around 30 or so posts.
I'm not sure if people have tired of Prager's act or if they feel he has somewhat lost interest in the show...it seems that his speech giving has taken priority now. Seldom does a week go by when he dosen't miss all or part of a radio show because he is travelling to give a speech
