| In spite of the hysterical ranting of Prager and his ilk over the past year it looks as though today will be the day that the United States finally enters an era when people will no longer be driven into financial ruin because of the cost of their health care. As some one who thinks running on the idea of giving back insurance companies the right to drop people from their coverage or deny medical services based on pre-existing conditions is losing strategy I wish Prager nothing but God speed and safe travels if he embarks on his quest to unseat representatives in districts that aren't "gerrymandered to the left" (I'm sure the fact I've never heard him complain about seats gerrymandered to the right is just a coincidence). But fair is fair, if the republicans end up taking over congress they should absolutely spend every moment trying to repeal health care for 30 million people. How they plan to do this when President Obama still holds veto power is something that I'm sure that they and various talk radio hosts have already worked out. However, after Prager fails and the right gains few seats in November no Republican or right wing talk show host can ever claim to speak for "the American people" or claim that they know what "the American people want", until the day comes that the Republicans gain the majority in congress. |

Probably the single thing that I was most impressed with was that there were IIRC 34 Dems who ended up voting against the bill. That's almost 15 %. Although I certainly don't agree with those votes, it does show me that the Dems are more likely to vote their conscience and not just put politics ahead of everything while blindly voting the way they are told to vote by their party. As for the GOP, not ONE single rep voted for the bill.
I've heard right wingers complaining about "back room deals" that had to be made in order to bring reluctant Dems in the fold. OK, I guess that could be considered troubling.....but isn't it MORE troubling that Boehner et al never had to even think about any such "deals" with GOP reps because they are all so willing to just turn their brains off and vote en masse the way their party leaders tell them to?
As for Prager's "sky is falling" nonsense, I'm pretty sure that the last two times he's been so fired up and terrified over an issue were in regards to same sex marriage (where society will crumble to dust if, god forbid, gays are allowed to have the same rights that Dennis "I'm working on my 3rd marriage" Prager enjoys).....and, of course when that Muslim congressman had the nerve to take his oath of office while using the supposed holy book that he believes is, the Koran. If you listened to Prager back then, you would be convinced that it was only a matter of time before almost every elected official took his or her oath of office using anything from a copy of Mien Kampf to the latest issue of Juggs magazine. |
